Vision and main objectives

Vision
Hole – adventurous past – adventurous future

The vision of the municipality should represent something to strive to achieve a good society for the municipalities residents. It should work as a motivational factor for the municipalities operations and preferably be brief, enthralling and energizing. The vision is to be actively employed and recognized as a form of brand building for the municipality.

The new vision was approved by Hole's council on 12.07.07

Main objectives

Emphasis should be on actions that strengthen Hole as its own distinctive and independent municipality. Nevertheless, one should continue the co-operation on rational solutions over the boundaries.

Sustainable development should be a prerequisite for development in Hole with an emphasis on the balance between growth and conservation, to prevent natural and cultural values becoming compromised for future generations. An environmental message will be composed, that is revised each year.

Average population increase should be a maximum of 2% per year, which indicates an overall growth over the period of approximately 25%.

Vik shall continue to be the center of Hole. Public and private services should preferably be at Vik centre.

The growth will mainly be achieved through continued development of Vik and Sundvollen into harmonic and good urban areas. There should be an emphasis on good and attractive private and public services and also conditions for safe upbringing of children and young people.

It shall also be arranged for house construction to take place in other parts of the municipality, (including spread residential construction, where the conditions are right for it for further evaluation in the municipal plan for land-use.

Development outside the central areas of Vik and Sundvollen should be primarily built as detached housing. The municipality will set requirements for aesthetics, plot size and environment in connection with the development of these areas.

In connection with the revision of the municipality plan for land-use, the traffic conditions in Sundvollen shall be considered.

Further development of Sollihøgda is desirable during the period in which the plan lasts. It should be arranged so that holiday homes can be converted to permanent housing  in areas where most of the buildings are already permanent housing.

The municipality shall, through active motivation of local communities, associations and other voluntary workers, work to strengthen community involvement and creating an inclusive society where no one falls out.

Natural and cultural values in Hole shall be an important element for the well-being, safety, health and quality of life. This will be achieved through active administration, sustainable use and adaptation.

It shall be worked with providing the municipality new businesses. The municipality will place emphasis on networking with industry and ensure that there are disposable industrial areas for new businesses.

There should be a conscious commitment to children and young people and their conditions for a good upbringing, especially the youth between the ages of 13 and 19 years.

It shall be worked with strengthening the municipality's economy, making it possible to continuing maintaining the priority services at a satisfactory level.

Hole is considered as part of the landscape of Ringerike, not to be confused with the municipality of Ringerike. Hole is located around the fjord Tyrifjorden and extends to the woodland around Oslo. Hole includes a lot of historical places, like some old churches, Stein farm, which is connected with the king Halfdan the Black (Halvdan Svarte). According to legend, parts of his body were buried in the mound there.

Vik is the municipality centre, while Sundvollen, Kroksund, Røyse and Steinsåsen are smaller regions in the municipality.

  • The fairytale forest Krokskogen lays within our municipality?
  • Hole has a unique Viking / Medieval history. Known kings like Halfdan the Black (Halvdan Svarte), Harald I (Harald Hårfagre), Olaf II (Olav den Hellige) and Harald III (Harald Hardråde) have had connection to our municipality?
  • The medieval church Bønsnes (Bønsnes Kirke) was built around the year 1100?
  • Hole geologically belongs to the known Oslo Region. Interesting geological deposits are visible along the road where Steinsfjorden is?
  • There are good opportunities to catch a big trout in Tyrifjorden, and rich opportunities for recreation and fishing on Krokskogen?
  • It is possible to cycle or walk across Krokskogen to / from Oslo?
  • Famous places like Sollihøgda, Steinsletta, Tyrifjorden, Steinsfjorden, Kongens utsikt (“a Kings view”) and Krokkleiva all belong in Hole?
